..a.k.a. possibly one of the most efficient trips ever
In march 22 I did a pretty spontaneous trip to Helsinki to shoot some street trickery with Antti Rissanen. I had one main photo motive in mind: the Bad, Bad Boy statue by Finnish artist Tommi Toija. Originally the statue had been standing (and peeing) closer to the city center at the main harbor – but some time ago it had been moved to a location in front of a big store and a bit further away from the city center… I wonder why 😉 I had never seen the statue and was quite excited to see whether some kind of action shot was possible at that location at all. With this on my mind I hopped on the train to the airport and so my first personal photo trip since december 2019 (!!) began. Arriving in Helsinki, conditions were pretty crazy as there was still quite a lot of snow and ice everywhere – when I touched down on friday evening, everything looked somewhat acceptable, but then a prrrreeetty decent storm rocked our start into saturday and we spent most of the day scouting locations. „Pretty decent“ as in: it blew away our 10kg mobile ramp at one point! We got some nice results anyway but kept most of our energy for the next day. Luckily sunday morning greeted us with sunshine, low winds and freezing temperatures 😉 We had a very decent list of 14 (!!) spots to check off and got to work as soon as we had our breakfast finished. Our approach paid off big time as by midday break we already had some very decent results and we pretty much kept the pace until the evening when an incoming snow storm hit us exactly as we were preparing for the last spot on the list: the Bad, Bad Boy statue 😉 with the blue hour in effect and myriads of tiny snow flakes in the air we nailed the final shot of the trip – a barspin out of a small dent in the ground. Fitting ending for this unusual trip! I can’t wait to see the results in print!!!
